<< Ministries >>
The ministry of Acorn Ridge Baptist Church is spread across many
outlets of outreach and support. The immediate ministry is of course
the local church. Within the church are several areas of ministry.
The following is a list and general description of our church's
ministries.
<< Media >>
The Bread of Life Broadcast
“The Bread of Life Broadcast" began in the fall of
1982 on WEEB at 990 AM in Southern Pines, North Carolina. It originally
aired on Sunday mornings from 8:30 to 8:45. Later it was increased
to a full half hour, lasting until 9:00 A.M.
The program features music, announcements about the church's services
and upcoming special events, and a message from the Scriptures.
The program is designed to both evangelize the lost and edify believers.
This is accomplished primarily through expository preaching with
an evangelistic emphasis. It is part of the Lord's plan to help
us minister to our country and surrounding areas.
The Good News
Over thirty years ago the Lord directed a previous pastor of our
church, Edwin Moore, to begin a church newspaper. It was sent free
of charge to any who requested it. Through the years it has grown
in circulation. Though many of those receiving it have gone on
to be with the Lord, others have taken their places. It is the
ministry of Acorn Ridge that garners the most consistent and largest
positive response. The Lord has chosen to use the little publication
to go behind prison walls, across oceans, over mountains, and into
homes and businesses all over the world with the gospel message
and encouragement for believers.
The Good News emphasizes the gospel and also includes articles
of interest to ministers, children, businessmen and women, homemakers,
teachers, professionals and laypersons. A few current events at
Acorn Ridge are included to help those living at a greater distance
away keep up with the things happening at the church.
A sermon is part of each issue. Numerous other articles are generally
short and to the point. These are gleaned from a variety of sources
and selected with the reader in mind.
You may wish to get on the mailing list and begin receiving the
little paper bimonthly. Your name and address will be held in confidence
and will not be shared with or sold to any other organization.
<< The Youth >>
Youth (RANGERS)
Acorn Ridge Rangers Club. The club is for grades 1-6. The purposes
for the club are to disciple children in the Word of God and to
evangelize. The children are encouraged to have daily quiet times,
and to memorize scripture. Participating in Christian Services,
reading Christian books and inviting at least one visitor per year
are additional expectations. They are also required to be faithful
in club, in Sunday school and in church attendance. Each child
could earn a different level from red, white, and blue.
Our club has monthly activities such as skating, going on trips,
playing at the park and enjoying pizza outings. We have an annual
award ceremony at the end of the year. The club is from August
to May. Pete & Ann Gibbons head up the Rangers club.
Children's Church
Also called the Junior Church, the Children's Church is under
the direction of Eddie and Jill Brown. They meet during the Sunday
morning worship service.
Teens (SEALS)
The Teens are under the direction of Rodney Swarms. They
meet Sunday evenings during the school term (from August to May) for their special service. There are many
yearly activities in which they participate - from service ministries to fun outings.
Children's Bible Time
Clay Gibbons, home from Bob Jones for the summer, is heading up a summer children's Bible ministry. It takes place Sunday nights during the main Sunday evening service, and has proven to be great fun to both the children and Clay. Clay is serving in the church for his pastoral internship.
